Billie M. Smith passed peacefully from this life on Aug. 25, 2008. She was born at Fort Casey to Bill and Thelma Nelson on Feb. 16, 1931. She was proud of the fact that she was voted “Most Beautiful Baby” at the Coupeville Water Festival. She was the oldest of three children. Billie grew up at the fort, “an Army brat,” as she said, and attended Coupeville schools, graduating in 1948.
Billie married and raised a family, living and working in Coupeville, mostly as a cook. She was employed at The Rip Tide, Pat’s Cafe, Coupeville school, hospital and then retiring from the Island County Sheriff’s Department. She then moved to Lake Stevens to be closer to some of her children. She will always be remembered for her great meals.
Billie is survived by her daughter, Sandi and her husband, C.J.; son, Jon and his wife, Kristi; son, Glenn and his wife, Willie; son, Bill and his wife, Betty; grandchildren Kristen, Scott, Charlie, Dustin, Cory, David and Tonya; great granchildren Kiana, Ashley, Hailee, Melia, Julian, Chase, Shane and Mitchell; sister, Gloria and brother, Frank.
Billie’s favorite saying was, “The good Lord will never ask you to do more than he thinks you can do.” She passed without complaint, in loving hearts and minds of family and friends. She will be missed.
According to her wishes, there will be no services.
