Carla Loraine Stewart, 49, died at her home in Oak Harbor on Oct. 6, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Terra Haute, Ind., but raised in northern California. Following high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, completing four years of service. She left the service as a Sergeant and began raising her family.
Carla left the Air Force in Great Falls, Mont., and moved to Omaha and then on to Utah and finally to Puget Sound. Oak Harbor became home for Carla and her family. Carla had worked much of her time in restaurant management and spent many years as the location manager for the Oak Harbor Skipper’s Restaurant. She was married to James D. Stewart in Oregon City, Ore., on June 28, 1993. Carla moved into retail sales and has worked for the Oak Harbor Wal-Mart store for the past 10 years.
Carla loved to cook, was a very active person who enjoyed camping, golf, bowling, going to the beach and travel. She loved spending time with her family and loved collecting Teddy Bears.
Carla is survived by her husband James and two daughters, Melissa Stewart and Heather Stewart, all of Oak Harbor and five brothers and sisters: Karen Ragudo and Patrick, David, Mickey and Jenny Weaver, all of California.
Carla requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
