Catherine Arnswaldt

Catherine Arnswaldt, 92, longtime resident of Whidbey Island, died at Whidbey Island Manor Friday, Oct. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Arnswaldt was born in Coupeville Sept. 5, 1912, to Thomas Clark and Anna (Scharlock) Clark. Catherine married Ernest A. Arnswaldt on July 2, 1932, in Tacoma. They lived in Seattle for a number of years. In 1969, they returned to Whidbey Island, where they made their home in Coupeville. Catherine was a member of the Eagles and a strong support to her husband’s work in the Coupeville Lions Club. She enjoyed spending time with him on his hunting expeditions, and also enjoyed making ceramics.

Catherine is survived by her son David and wife Janet of Redmond; three grandchildren, Sharon Smith and Cheryl Schlais and husband Andy, all of Seattle and Renee Cadman and husband Clint of Bellingham; seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, Heather Beagle and husband David of Lake Stevens, Robert Benjamin and wife Sharon of Monroe, Elaine Flory of Bellevue and Jeff Benjamin of Kirkland; several step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine DeVriese of San de Fuca; also, numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Arnswaldt on Nov. 28, 1993, and by three brothers, Mickey Clark, James S. Clark and Tom Clark.

In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Coupeville Lions Club, for the wonderful help they provided (P.O. Box 473, Coupeville, WA 98239). Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
