Catherine (Cathie) Marie Diem, born on February 3, 1963, in Franklin, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 22, 2025, in Sequim, Washington, at the age of 62.
Cathie lived a life of deep feeling, fierce determination, and endless generosity. She carried many burdens—fighting battles not everyone could see—but she never stopped trying, never stopped caring, and never stopped giving to those around her. She was a woman of contrasts—beautiful and broken, strong yet vulnerable. Through all of life’s hardships, she worked hard, met struggle with resilience, and never lost her ability to love.
She dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a nurse, first in hospital settings and later finding her true passion in assisted living. She had a natural ability to comfort and care for those in need, treating every patient with kindness and dignity.
She found joy in simple things. She loved plants and took special pride in her secret garden. An excellent cook, she delighted in making exciting dishes from around the world. She loved exploring—whether traveling to new places or simply being in nature. A lifelong animal lover, she cared for many beloved pets over the years. She had a kind heart and a giving spirit, always willing to help those in need, even when she had little to give. She believed strongly in second chances, in redemption, and in the power of kindness.
She is survived by her son Danny (Jessica), grandson Charlie, and siblings David (Suzi), Mary (Mike), Mike, Nancy, Shawn (David), and Robert(Karyn), as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sara, and her brother Jonathan.
A small, private memorial service will be held in late May on Whidbey Island. Please contact any family members for further details.
Though she is gone, her love and generosity remain with us. She touched many lives, and we are all better for having shared in her journey.
