Charles “Chuck” Jameson 67, a forty-five year resident of Coupeville, died suddenly at his home on August 29, 2005. He was born to William and Isabell (Frederickson) Jameson in Salt Lake, Utah on April 26, 1938. He grew up in Ogden, Utah.
Chuck entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was sent to Oklahoma for boot camp and then on to San Diego. He was assigned to carrier duty in Japan and then arrived at NAS Whidbey. He was married to Gladys Mackey in Coupeville on Jan. 31, 1959.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Chuck went to work for Dean Chevrolet in Coupeville. He worked for a Greenbank contractor for a time and then for NAS Whidbey.
Chuck began a 30-year career with the Island County Road Department, working out of the Coupeville Road Shop, retiring as foreman. Following retirement, Chuck worked for Curt Youderian at Ed’s Construction and finally as a part-time employee for the Town of Coupeville in their maintenance shop.
Chuck had a lifelong passion for baseball that began in high school. In recent years, he played on the Emerald City Masters Team, competing in the Seniors Slow-Pitch Division. He won the Nationals on several occasions and went on to win the World Championship four times. In 2003, his team won the Triple Crown in Slow-Pitch. Chuck also spent many years teaching baseball fundamentals, coaching local players and working on the baseball fields.
Chuck loved kids and sports and most of all, being a father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in recent years, took up quilting.
Chuck is survived by his wife Gladys at the family home, Coupeville; by three children, Yvonne Cheviron and husband Matt and their children, Spencer, Heath, Samantha and Chase Cheviron, all of Higley, Ariz.; Keith Jameson and son Reese Jameson, both of Oak Harbor and Annette Galliher and husband Glenn and their children, Nick, Alexander Tanner and Brooklyn “Creek” Galliher, all of Issaquah.
Visitation for family and friends was held at Burley Funeral Chapel on Sept. 2. Cremation with graveside services will take place Saturday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery. Pastor Garrett Arnold of Living Hope Foursquare Church, Coupeville, will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
