Charles Joseph Breen, Sr., 92, of rural Tuscola, Ill., died Sept. 1, 2002 at his residence.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5 at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, with Father Allen Kemme officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola. A Vigil Service will be held at 5:30 p.m., and a Rosary Service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola.
Mr. Breen was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Jeremiah and Mary O’Connor Breen. He married Mary E. Smith July 20, 1935, in Tuscola, at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church where they have been members for 67 years. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles J. Breen, Jr. and wife Shirley of Champaign, Ill. and Kevin Breen and wife Janet of Tuscola; and five daughters, Mary Joan Jacobs and husband Joseph of Charleston, Ill., Judith Bomkamp and husband Norman of Oak Harbor, Nancy Bell and husband John of Pawnee, Ill., Kathleen Kleiss and husband Vernon of Pesotum, Ill., and Brenda Voeller and husband Donald of Lake Oswego, Ore.
Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Patricia (Charles) Simpson, one great-granddaughter Madeline Huonder, five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Breen farmed in the Chillicothe, Mo., area before moving to Tuscola in 1935, where he continued farming until his death.
