Charles Richards Wood, 93, of Coupeville, died at Careage of Whidbey Wed., Nov. 20, 2002.
Mr. Wood was born in St. Paul-des-Metis, Alberta, Canada, July 15, 1909, to Merton and Berdena Wood. He was raised in Kalispell, Mont.
He graduated from Montana State College (Bozeman) in 1935 and worked as an engineer for the Allis Chalmers Corporation in Milwaukee.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Navy. Following the war, Charles began a twenty-five year career with the General Motors Corporation, retiring to Sun City, Ariz., in 1969.
Charles moved to Coupeville in December 1998 to be close to his brother and sister-in-law George and Grace Wood.
Charles is survived by one daughter, Sharlene Menoskey of Round Rock, Texas; two sons, Charles A. Wood of Getzville, N.Y. and Richard M. Wood of Portland, Ore.; a step-daughter, Delores Miles of Newport Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren; also, by one sister, Emily Thorvilson of Helena, Mont. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean in Feb. 1983; sisters Alberta Campbell, Gladys Millhouse, Laura Ostroot and Mildred Hopkins; his brother Dr. George Wood and sister-in-law Grace Wood.
In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Ariz., at a later date.
