Christine (Chris) E. Lanz, 60, passed away at her home in Coupeville on Jan. 23, 2013. She was born on June 15, 1952 in Tacoma to Thomas Lanz and Mary (Pokrifchak) Lanz. Chris graduated from Tacoma’s Lincoln High School in 1970. In 1976 she married her life partner, Len Eserhut, and they built a house in northeast Tacoma. In 1986 they decided to simplify their lives and moved to Whidbey Island, building a home near Oak Harbor. When Chris’ father passed away in 1995, they built a second house on their property for her mother and enjoyed Mary being a part of their daily lives until her death in 2008. Chris loved working for Dr. Neal Manor, until his sudden death in 2001. She later worked for her dentist and good friend, Dr. Gary Berner, in Oak Harbor until treatments for her ovarian cancer made work difficult. Throughout her life, Chris’s passion was cooking and baking, much like her mother. Chris is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, sister and step grandson, Andrew. She is survived by her husband, Len, her stepdaughters, Ann Tjhung, and Jennifer Pack, step grandchildren, Nicholas, Jasmine, Olivia and Nora, and her beloved “Auntie Marge” Cooper, her mother’s only surviving sibling and Chris’ dear friend, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Whidbey General Hospital Foundation.
