Christopher Jay Spangler passed away unexpectedly in the Philippines with his wife Carla at his side on January, 1st 2025 Chris was born in Bellingham, Washington on May 29th, 1968.
When Chris was 3, his family moved to the Maxwelton area on Whidbey Island. He spent his childhood years digging up worms, riding dirt bikes and later working on his‘69 dodge charger with “8 thirsty cylinders”. Chris attended South Whidbey Elementary and South Whidbey Junior high, then graduated from South Whidbey High School in 1986. He worked multiple jobs, including, managing a hotel in Everett, and fishing in Alaska. After graduating from Skagit Valley Community College with a Degree in Land Management, he was hired by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. For the next 25 years, he was the supervisor of the Land Management Access region of Southern Washington. This worked well with his hobbies which included hunting, fishing, and working on his land close to the Columbia River Gorge.
Chris was highly respected in his community. He held significant positions such as the president of the National Wild Turkey Federation of Washington State, and Assistant Fire Chief for the Skamania County volunteer Fire Department.
Chris met the love of his life and married Carla Sapilan in 2017. He retired shortly after the wedding and built their home in the Philippines. Chris and Carla spent half their time between the Philippines and at their home in Stevenson Washington.
Chris will always be known for his laughter, witty jokes and enjoying a good prank on his family and friends. He left a lasting impression on his extended family and friends both in America and the Philippines. Chris was admired and will be mourned by all.
Chris is survived by his wife Carla and Carla’s daughter Nichole of Cebu Philippines, parents Duane and Carol Spangler of Freeland, brother Barry and sister-in-law Jenelle of Tempe, AZ. Aunts Peggy and Sandy, his Uncle John, Cousins, Jeff, Tracy, Carrie, and Kyle and many extended family members.
