Clifford Thomas Sainsbury, 44, of Sugar City, Idaho, died Dec. 11, 2007, from injuries received in an airplane accident. He was born July 8, 1963, in Portland, Ore., to Thomas Burdette Sainsbury and Mary Ann Asay Sainsbury. He attended grade schools in Woodland, Wash.; Rainier, Ore.; Basin City, Wash.; Union, Ore., and graduated from high school in Oak Harbor.
After high school he continued his education at Ricks College, Yakima Valley Community College, Washington State University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii and Brigham Young University in Provo, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, and a teaching degree in General Education with a minor in history.
He married Deborah Peebles on April 9, 1988. They had two children and were later divorced. He married Jennifer Jean Virgin Klingler on Dec. 22, 2005, in Rexburg, Idaho.
Tom founded Sainsbury Construction Company in 1989. He built many hotels and condominiums all over Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Texas, and London, England. He was a member of the Upper Valley Builders Association. He was awarded Builder’s Choice for three years in a row, Best of Show and Best Interior Design. Tom was a contractor on Alpine Village for the 2000 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and a major contractor for Thanksgiving Point in Utah.
He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Safari Club International, NRA, and a writer for Muley Crazy Magazine and Trophy Hunter Magazine. Tom’s love of hunting and fishing took him all over the world. He traveled to Argentina, Canada, Alaska, Mexico and Africa, as well as all over the United States. He took his wife, Jennifer, and their three children on many of these trips, as well as close friends. Tom worked to hunt and fish.
Tom also loved sports. He played football and basketball in high school and attended colleges on scholarships and received many awards and honors while playing. He also was a high school football coach in the fall while in Washington.
Tom loved the youth at Sugar City and donated generously to the sports programs, Tom was very generous and giving, he supported missionaries while on missions. He has paid college tuition for several kids who couldn’t afford to attend college.
Tom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he has held many positions and was currently serving as a Webelo’s leader.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; and children, Colton Thomas Sainsbury, Dallas Rae Sainsbury and Bailey J. Klingler, all of Sugar City; his parents, Thomas and Mary Ann Sainsbury; and siblings, Rodney (Cathy) Sainsbury and Jonna (Shane) Wintch, all of St. George, Utah; and grandfather, Clifford Banks Asay of Ramah, N.M. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Alva Sainsbury and Darlene Asay. Funeral services were held Dec. 19 at the Sugar City LDS Stake Center. Interment was at Sugar City Cemetery.
