Dan Snow

Lloyd Daniel Snow (Dan), died peacefully early April 9, 2002, surrounded by his loving family. He was 57.

Dan was born on April 21, 1944, in Chicago to Lloyd and Verna Snow. He spent most of his childhood in the Houston area, graduating from Spring Branch High School in 1962. After serving in the Coast Guard reserves and working in Texas and California, he moved with his family to the Olympia area in 1972.

Dan leaves a legacy of long service to the people of Washington, having spent the last 30 years of his life in public transportation. Dan started as a school bus driver in the 1970’s, then worked his way through the ranks of Intercity Transit, starting as a driver, and becoming operations supervisor in 1980.

In 1987, Dan was selected to start Island Transit on Whidbey Island, becoming that organization’s first executive director. After leaving Island Transit in 1991, he became executive director of Washington State Transit Association, a non-profit corporation representing all transit systems in the state.

Dan’s service and dedication to the public transportation industry have been an inspiration to many. His grace, warmth and integrity made him a friend to many more. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

On March 13, 2002, he was recognized by the Washington State Legislature with House Resolution 4725 and Senate Resolution 8766, honoring his lifelong service and dedication to public transportation.

Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Corey, Joel and Josh; step-daughters, Katie and Christy; daughters-in-law Robin and Grace; and two grandsons and two granddaughters.
