Darrell Edmond ‘Boats’ Williams

Darrell Edmond “Boats” Williams, 90, 30-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Careage of Whidbey Wednesday, March 24, 2004.

Mr. Williams was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Brazil, Ind., to Franklin L. Williams and Susan May (Smith) Williams. He came to Seattle at an early age with his family in the 1920’s. They settled in West Seattle. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1932.

Following high school graduation, “Boats” joined the US Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Navy after 30 years, with the rank of chief warrant officer. Boats was present at the decommissioning of the USS Missouri, “The Mighty Mo.” Feb. 26, 1948, he married Muriel M. Larsen in Long Beach, Calif.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the Elks Lodge No. 2362, and was a Free and Accepted Mason. He was also a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Seattle. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, house keeping and beach combing.

Boats is survived by his son Tony Williams and wife Patricia of Sultan; daughter Sally Halvorson of Kent; three grandchildren, Matthew and Heather Williams, both of Burien and Andrea Halvorson of Kent; also, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel May 26, 1998.

In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. Private inurnment will take place in Washington Memorial Park in Sea-Tac. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
