Dolon Edward “Ed” Nance of Oak Harbor, WA passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022.
Ed was born November 4, 1937 on a small farm in Salemburg, North Carolina. He spent many happy days with his family taking care of the fields and animals until he enlisted in the US Navy.
Ed worked hard in his position rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and it was during his navy career where he met his wife, Kazuko in Japan. The pair married at the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan before moving with their daughter, Merry Nance, to Oak Harbor.
After retiring from the Navy, Ed began working at Boeing where he would stay until his final working day.
He was adored everywhere he went, whether grabbing lunch at Frank’s Place or riding in the Fourth of July parade or just sitting by the lake fishing, either by himself or with close family friend Paula Thompson.
He was a strong pillar for his daughter and granddaughters as well as being an unofficial dad and grandpa to many and never failed to bring happiness and kindness across the town.
Dolon Edward Nance was preceded in death by his parents John and Ida, numerous brothers and sisters and his loving wife, Kazuko.
He is survived by his daughter Merry “Tina” Nance, sister Betty Spell, grandchildren Tasha Raub, Kyla Botts, Elizabeth Quiles, and CathyAnn Kempfer as well as his 8 great grandchildren and unofficial grandchildren Anna Danford and Stephanie Ware.
A gathering to celebrate the wonderful life of Ed will be held November 7th from 1-3pm at Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home.
