Don Kirkpatrick, former head professional at Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor, passed away Jan. 24, 2014, at age 85. He had been living in retirement in Everett.
Don was a 50-year member of the Professional Golfers’ Association and was known as an excellent teacher of golf. He worked at the Whidbey club from 1976 to about 1988 and also worked at Puetz Golf Range in Seattle and Earlington Golf Course in Renton. His tournament victories included the 1970 Washington state PGA Match Play Championship and the 1980 Pacific Northwest Senior PGA Championship.
Don’s survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Deloris; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Richard Olafson of Spokane; and a son and daughter-in-law, Don Kirkpatrick II and Cheryl Markham of Seattle.
A celebration of Don’s life will begin at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Nile Shrine Golf Center, Mountlake Terrace, just west of I-5 at Exit 177 (in the Gold Room).
