Doris was born in Los Angeles on Aug. 28, 1920, to Adolf and Marie Ritter. She died March 31, 2009, peacefully with daughter Marilyn at her bedside at the Preston Health Center in Hilton Head, S.C.
After graduating from business college June 7, 1940, Doris married William L. Fuller. For most of their lives, the couple lived at their family home in South Gate, Calif., where they raised two daughters. Doris was proud that both Marilyn and Suzanne were graduates of UCLA.
In 1992, they retired and purchased a home in Oak Harbor.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband Bill and her sister Norma Merli, in Italy.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Suzanne and her husband Don Boyer, and Marilyn and husband Dean Dizikes of Hilton Head, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jeff Wittenberg and wife Christa of Dublin, Calif., Lisa and husband Hans Illingworth of Seattle, Ali Dizikes of New York, N.Y. and Gina and husband Keith Beavers of New York, N.Y.; step-grandchildren Nikki and husband Tom Braaten of Everett, Scott and wife Cindy Boyer of Bellevue, Kari and husband Dave Holmly of Oak Harbor and Lesli and husband Phil Schlaepfer of Bellevue.
Great-grandchildren include Carter, Grace and Mason Wittenberg of Dublin, Calif., and Parker and Ava Illingworth of Seattle. Step-grandchildren include Matt and Alexa Holmly of Oak Harbor and Andrew, Chris and Julia Schlaepfer of Bellevue.
Doris worked as a secretary to the president of Citizens Bank, Crocker Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. She was loved by many family and relatives. She was a member of the United First Methodist Church, a member of the Polly Harpole Hospital Guild, a Canasta Club and loved to play bridge. Her ashes will be interned next to her husband Bill at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor.
