Dorothy Ann Morgan (nee Dabareiner) slipped from this world Dec. 19, 2014, at Ann Arundel (Maryland) Medical Center. She was 81.
Dorothy, known to all of her friends as Dottie, was born in Glendale, Calif., Dec. 10, 1933, to Merial and Lee Dabareiner. She spent her entire childhood in California, following her father, who was a manager for the Montgomery-Wards chain in multiple cities within the Golden State.
She graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland, Calif., in 1951 and went into nurses training before marrying former high school classmate 2nd Lieutenant Richard “Dick” Morgan, USAF, Aug. 1, 1953.
Over the next 35 years, Dottie and Dick raised a family and lived at Air Force bases in California, Nebraska, Florida, Illinois, North Dakota, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and, finally, at Soesterberg, the Netherlands. Upon Dick’s retirement in 1981, they moved to St. Louis, Mo., and subsequently Tucson, Ariz., and Oak Harbor, Wash.
Throughout it all, their passion was the stage, based on Dick’s time as a professional singer in Las Vegas and Dottie’s love of theater and dance. While in the Air Force, they were known for their elaborate stage shows; later in life, they were both heavily involved in little theater, including the Whidbey Island Playhouse and Anacortes Community Theater.
Dottie possessed a loving heart and beautiful spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2003 and is survived by her three children, Mark (60), Rick (58) and Chris (56); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Dottie’s family plans her interment with Dick at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash., with a graveside ceremony in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Whidbey Playhouse or the Anacortes Community Theater.
