Douglas Mackie

Douglas A. Mackie, 70, of Coupeville, died of a heart attack August 26, 2005 in Port Townsend.

He was born Sept. 5, 1934 in Seattle to John Mackie and Elsie Ottoson Mackie. He married June Bass Mackie on August 9, 1958 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaha.

Mr. Mackie was raised in Snohomish. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and 1956. He graduated from Everett Junior College in 1957, Washington State University in 1961 and Eastern Washington College in 1965. He worked as a vocational counselor at Libby, Mont., Nome, St. Petersburg and Seward, Alaska.

He moved to Coupeville in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and sprint car racing and belonged to the Oak Harbor Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers and the Central Whidbey Sportsmen’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, June Mackie. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Central Whidbey Sportsmen’s Association, Safari Road. Bring your favorite dish and beverage for a potluck. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
