Douglas Traylor

Douglas Artie Traylor passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 23, 2005, with family and friends close by, following an extended illness. Douglas was born on June 9, 1935 in Oak Harbor to Burks W. Traylor and Artie (Vaughn) Traylor.

Douglas leaves Janice (Van Nieuwenhuise) Traylor, his loving wife and friend of 49 years. Douglas and Janice were married June 9, 1956 in Oak Harbor where they made their home and raised their three children. Douglas leaves his three children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Debra (Tralyor) Scheer and spouse David and their four children Jennifer, Kevin, Carrie and Brian Scheer, Melvin Traylor and his two children Christopher and Alan Traylor, Dianne (Traylor) Demessemaker and her two children Shawn and Amanda Demessemaker, and three great-grandchildren Kaitlinn Scheer, Riley Traylor and Alec Demessemaker. Douglas’s family was everything to him.

Douglas also leaves one brother Wayland Traylor of Wenatchee, and two sisters Violet Loftis of Anacortes and Donna-lee Gamble of Marysville. His two sisters Beatrice (Punky) Loftis and Travis Kennedy preceded him in death.

Douglas retired after 25 years with the City of Oak Harbor as a Utilities Foreman, later working for Lee Johnson and Sons.

Douglas and Janice spent much of their time traveling together in their motor home, where they enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with friends, while they have spent the last year living in Clear Lake.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at Kerns Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Remembrances can be made to The American Cancer Society or to the Northwest Wild Turkey Federation.
