Dr. Harry Kenneth Bailey, M.D., passed away at 81 on Feb. 13, 2007, at home in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Shawnee, Okla., to parents Dorthea Anna Higgins Bailey, mother and Louis Raymond Bailey, father. Harry graduated from Shawnee High School.
After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was selected for ROTC training. The Navy is where he started his medical career, receiving his degree in medicine from the University of Oklahoma in Family Practice. He later attended Rice University for further medical training in surgery. Harry Bailey served as a medical doctor in the US Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant in October 1957.
As a family physician in Oak Harbor, Dr. Bailey treated his needier patients without charge or bartered, as the patient wished. He retired from medicine in 1993. Harry enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to sail the Puget Sound, snow ski, hunt, fish, and of course make practical jokes. He enjoyed making sails, beer brewing, winemaking, digging for clams, and was a passionate reader throughout his life.
Harry is survived by his wife Frances M. Bailey; son Brian Bailey and wife Doris; daughters, Martha Sessums and husband Philip Mustain, Meg Thompson, Colleen Freemon, Elizabeth Austin, and Nora Baker and husband Gary; brother, Richard Bailey; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His parents, brother Paul Bailey, and daughter Susan Porter preceded him in death.
