Edna C. ‘Pat’ Hooten

Pat gently passed away at home surrounded by her family Aug. 16, 2004 —two weeks after suffering a stroke.

She was born Edna Catherine McCullough Dec. 5, 1926, to Robert Joseph and Elizabeth Cecilia McCullough, the eighth of nine children in a proud Irish family. At a young age Pat was briefly married to Francis Earl Scott and had a son, Francis (Frank) Earl Scott, Jr. In 1947, she met and married William Lewis “Bill” Hooton and had two more children, Vivian Charlene and Michael Lewis Hooton.

Bill, Pat and the children moved several times during Bill’s Naval career, making homes in Florida, Tennessee, California and Washington. Except for one year in San Diego, Calif., Oak Harbor was home from the early 1960s to 1970 and they knew they had found their favorite place. In 1970 Pat and Bill moved to Sacramento, Calif., but their hearts remained in Oak Harbor and in 1984, they returned home for good.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and siblings Robert, Ellen, Joseph, Isabel, Margurite, Mary, and Virginia. She is survived by her sister Mary Catherine of Pennsylvania; her children and their spouses, Frank and Liz Scott and Mike and Valerie Hooton of Oak Harbor and Charlene and John Bennett of Lynden; her grandchildren and spouses; Mike Scott, Tamara Scott and Tanayah and Jaime Fierro, Johnny and Cindy Bennett, Billie and Michelle Bennett, Jason Hooton and Heather Hooton Petersen and her great-grandchildren Brienna Petersen and Skylar Fierro.

A memorial service was held Aug. 19 at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
