Edward Boer, retired Christian Reformed Church Pastor, was called to the Lord on March 24, 2013, at the age of 92. He was born April 3, 1920 in DeMotte, Indiana, to Garrett and Lena (Intveld) Boer. Ed graduated from high school in DeMotte and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1942 and then entered the seminary at Calvin. Ed Boer graduated, was ordained as a pastor with the Christian Reformed Church and was married to the former Cornelia “Connie” Dykstra within three days’ time.
Ed and Connie selected Parchment, Michigan, as their first church in 1945. They served churchs in Parchment and Lamont, Mich.; Milwaukee, Wis; Haledon, NJ; Muskegon, Mich.; and in 1968 settled in Brigham City, Utah, where they lived from 1968 to 1985. The Boers had visited Whidbey Island on many occasions, spending time with Connie’s sister Evelyn Ferrier. Ed and Connie decided Whidbey was to be their retirement home. Ed enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds, walks with Connie and traveling. The one thing Ed enjoyed most was being with people.
Ed is survived by five children: David and Nona Boer of Spring Lake, MI, Stephen Boer of Kent, WA, James and Melinda Boer of Coupeville, Laurel and David VanderMeulen of Englewood, CO, and Mark Boer of Denver, CO. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Edward Boer, Angela Boer, Michelle Boer and Jessica Boer-Jacoby, James and Matt VanderMeulen and Andrew and Katie Boer, Jeihmel and Janelle Boer. Ed Boer was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Benton, Van, Cade Boer; Keegan and Eli Jacoby; Lucy Fulk; and Annabelle, Lillian, and Ailah Boer. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Connie in 2002.
