Elaine Luenser Surber Young left us on Nov. 21, 2013.
She was known to many of you as “Surb” and some of us as “Ma.” Elaine was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Chicago, Ill.
Elaine began working as a dispatcher for the Island County Sheriff’s Office in 1975 and soon became a deputy and detective.
She retired from the sheriff’s office in 1995.
Her love and respect for the game of golf was always a point of conversation.
Elaine was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Ladies Golf League at the Gallery Golf Course and was involved with many other community activities.
Elaine leaves her husband of 20 years, Steve Young; sister Kathleen Barnett; sons and wives, Scott, Steven and Linette, Samuel and Siobhan and Stewart and Jana.
Elaine was the proud grandmother of Ian, Aaron, Adam, Justin, Samantha, Katie, Tatiana, Gerin and Lyndsi.
She was preceded in death by her father Herbert, mother Lillian, mother Eula and brother Kenneth.
A Celebration of Life for Elaine will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at The VFW Post 7392 located at 3037 N. Goldie Road, Oak Harbor.
