Elvin Haralson, our dad, passed peacefully on Sept. 25, 2005 at Whidbey Island Manor after a two-year illness.
Dad and his twin brother, Elton, were born at the family farm in the township of Wishart, Mo. on March 2, 1924, joining parents Bill and Opal, older brother Oral and sister Laura Ruth.
Along with brother Elton, Dad joined the Army in 1943.
While in the service he met and married our mother AnnaMae Furman on Dec. 13, 1944. They spent the next 45 years here on Whidbey Island then retired to Warden, Wash. in 1990.
Dad was a self-employed logger for a number of years. He retired as a heavy machinery mechanic from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor.
Dad was involved in the VFW for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, wine making, gardening and visiting family and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents, older brother Oral and grandson Greg.
He leaves behind wife AnnaMae; brother Elton (Pauline); sister Laura Ruth and daughters Judy (Larry) Leidholm, children Nikki and Matt; Nancy (Pat) Williams, children Angela, Krystal, Kenny and Patrick; Sherri Templeton, children Don, Brian, Kyle; and 13 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at Visser Funeral Home in Langley on 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 8. A gathering will follow.
