Gene peacefully passed away with his wife and daughters at his side. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, his four children Jay, Janice, Joanna, and Jim, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a long time teacher and coach, Gene touched the lives of many. After he retired in 1990 he spent time serving at his church, and 21 years painting houses with long-time friends, Marvin and Anthony Reed.
Gene was the epitome of a good man, a devoted loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his friends and had a happy disposition with no inclination for complaining. He did not wear it on his sleeve, but he had a strong faith in Jesus Christ that is reflected in his family. He had a great passion for music, and used that to sing at his church and the community choir.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 11:00am at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, 1253 NW 2nd Ave, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.
