Eunice Nettie Hoekstra Lang was born March 7, 1916, in Oak Harbor to Lambert and Johanna (Meeter) Hoekstra. She passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Dec. 15, 2008, in Everett.
In 1942, Eunice married Arnold Lang in Oak Harbor and later that year they moved to a home that they built together in Mount Vernon. After 44 years of marriage and Arnold’s passing in 1986, Eunice continued to reside in Mount Vernon until 2007 when she moved to The Cottages in Mill Creek to be closer to her daughter and family. She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church and The Golden Girls. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love and kindness will be missed and her memory will be cherished.
She is survived by her only daughter Bonnie Jo and husband Larry Keller of Everett, and their children, Carrie (Cam) Peterson of Stanwood, Laurie Wolfer of Lynnwood, Patrick Keller of Mukilteo, Jeff Keller of Edmonds and Amy (Sam) Balich of Phoenix; one great-grandson, Clayton Peterson; sister-in-law, Lillian Hoekstra of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents, Lambert and Johanna; her brothers, Dewey and Ben and sister, Jennie.
Viewing for Eunice was held Dec. 19 at Kern Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Fern Hill Cemetery in Anacortes. A public reception will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Avon United Methodist Church, 13743 Avon-Allen Rd., Mount Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Avon United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Cottages for the kindness and care they gave to Eunice while she lived there.
Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.
