Evelyn Gertrude Carskadden

Evelyn Gertrude Carskadden died March 13, 2011. She was born on March 25, 1911, in Seattle, the daughter of Emil Nathaniel Edenholm and Sena Johanna Andersen. Raised in Seattle, she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1930 and married her school sweetheart, Thomas Franklin Carskadden, who died in 1979. She is survived by two sons, Lt. Col. Thomas H. Carskadden (Kathleen) of Hondo, Texas, and the Rev. Ralph R. Carskadden of Seattle; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In 1952, Evelyn and Tom moved to Oak Harbor, where he and his brothers began Carskadden Brothers Hardware. Evelyn went to work with Civil Service and retired after 25 years. She served as a volunteer at Whidbey General Hospital for almost a quarter of a century.

Evelyn was an active member of the Oak Harbor Lutheran Church for over 55 years. She will be remembered for many things, including her sense of humor, her cookies, her love for her family and her delight in all children, especially the youngest. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Evelyn are invited to contribute to ministries for children and youth at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, 1253 NW Second Ave., Oak Harbor, WA 98277.

Visitation will be Friday, March 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Whidbey Memorial. A Funeral Service will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church, 7400 Woodlawn Ave. NE, Seattle, Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend the funeral, an informal gathering for prayer and remembrance will be held on that day at 2 p.m. at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. A Graveside Committal will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ron and Ray Edenholm, Steve Barnes, Fred Stoll, Albert Starr and Dutch Strehle.

The Carskadden family extends their gratitude to the staff and residents of Regency on Whidbey and the pastors and members of Oak Harbor Lutheran Church for their loving care for Evelyn over the last years of her life, and to the circle of friends and family that surrounded her and brought her great joy.
