Everett Wayne Coffman was born Sept. 19, 1932 to Thomas and Pauline Coffman in Weber Falls, Okla. He was one of seven sons brought up to be rough and unruly in a setting like that of an old western movie. He died in Coupeville on Feb. 19, 2010.
Everett was a family man who loved working with his hands and had a mean softball pitch. He worked as a farm hand and mechanic in California where he had four children: Sherrie (Bob Scott), John (Denise Coffman), Judy (Fred Andrews) and Teresa (Tim Wilhelms). When he married his love, Janice Libbey, on New Year’s Day 1978, he welcomed more family including daughters Stacy Kay, Janet Isbel and Linda (Rob Johnson).
Everett and Janice continued to create a life on Whidbey full of family, friends and community. He was a hotcake master and the biggest fan to his 10 grandchildren: Jaclyn, Nichole, Krystal, Haley, John, Laura, Dana, Taylor, Tyson and Gracie; and 2 great-grandsons, Christian and Cameron.
Everett is also survived by his brothers Richard and Jim. He was known as a fishing enthusiast and storyteller extraordinaire. He leaves behind a legacy of tall tales, camaraderie, compassion and devotion to his family.
A graveside service for Everett was held Feb. 24 at Sunnyside Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
