Flavio “Van” Vanicelli joined his late wife Marion (nee Sherwood) Vanicelli in the arms of a loving God on July 20, 2014, after a brief illness. He was 92.
Van was a successful salesman and sales manager in the automotive aftermarket in Michigan for many years. Retiring at age 58, he moved from Detroit to Oak Harbor, where he was active for a long time with the Senior Council of Retired Executives.
After Marion passed away, he married Wanda (nee Sollars), who survives him. Both marriages were blessed with success; his devotion to both of these wonderful women knew no bounds.
Van was not one to sit still. He was an avid golfer, bowler and cribbage player. He was active in neighborhood associations, church and the Knights of Columbus. Over the years, he maintained contact with the Berry Boys, a group of Berry Grade School alumni. He never had any enemies and will be missed by many friends.
Van is succeeded by sister Alice Vanchina; sons Harry (wife Franne) and Terry (wife Mary); and six grandchildren, Cameron, David, Maddelyn, Monica, Peter and Thomas; great-granddaughter Star; step-children Frank Howard Sollars, JoMarie Flores, Wendy Eileen Dryer, Susan Diane Goss, and Scott Howard Sollars; 13 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
An urn committal service with military honors will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.
Friends and family are encouraged to visit Van’s page in the Book of Memories hosted at www.wallinfuneral
