What can we say about Mom. She was our Mom, best friend, grandma and great- grandma. She passed away at her home in Oak Harbor on Nov. 1, 2009 at the age of 83, surrounded by her family, following a short illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1926 in Erie, Colo., to James and Lucy Sappington.

Betty had been a resident of Oak Harbor for 37 years. She was a homemaker, loved fishing, sewing and gardening. Her favorite pastime was crossword puzzles. She spent most of her time with her family.

Betty is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Dorothy Rauch (Robert Faulkner), Roxanna Rauch Lambert (Thomas) and Michael Rauch Pomrenke (Donald). Ten grandsons, four granddaughters and 23 great-grandchildren also survive. Her husband Lonnie Rauch, son James P. Rauch, daughter Leta Rauch Hammernik and a grandson Shane Rauch preceded her in death. We loved her and she will be greatly missed.

Cremation was held. Betty requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Arrangements entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
