Francis Wallace Hardy, 86, died July 1, 2002, of prostate cancer in Coupeville after a long illness. Frank was born June 8, 1916 in Nanaimo, B.C., to Rev. Francis W. Hardy and Ella (Kergin) Hardy.
He grew up in British Columbia and graduated from University of British Columbia in 1940. He met Janet McKellar at UBC: they married in Vancouver in 1942. Frank served with the Canadian Armed Forces in World War II.
Frank and Janet moved to Pullman in 1947. He worked for Western Farmers Association in Sunnyside, Mount Vernon and Montesano, then retired in Coupeville in 1978 where he was active in Lions Club and Whidbey Audubon. Frank spent many happy years fishing in Puget Sound, British Columbia and Westport. He enjoyed classical music and spent a lifetime gardening. He is survived by Janet, his wife of 60 years; son Ron Hardy and wife Beth of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughter Joan Hardy and husband Greg Ruggerone of Kenmore; daughter Judy Hardy of Seattle; son Andrew Hardy of Des Moines; grandchildren Anna, Clare, Amy, Leah, Ally and David; and great-grandson Quinn. The family thanks Dr. Vracin, the personnel of Whidbey General Hospital and Careage of Coupeville. Remembrances suggested to Home Health Care and Hospice of Whidbey.
An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 20 at the family home in Coupeville.
