Fred Bishop, age 79, passed away at home with his loving family at his side on June 13, 2016.
He was born March 15, 1937, in Oakland, Calif. He graduated in June 1955 from El Cerrito High School in Richmond, Calif.
Fred then entered the National Guard, which began his 28 years of military service, including the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
Fred became a resident of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in December of 1970.
With his many years in the Navy he was fortunate to have survived 14 cruises, two planes crashes and two tours in the Vietnam War.
On July 31, 1980, he retired from the Navy, but continued to serve his country through civil service for another 23 years.
In 1981 Fred married the love of his life, Linda. They have a combine family of six children, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Fred and Linda enjoyed many years of the RV life and traveling abroad.
Fred’s specialty was the art of fishing. He enjoyed teaching and telling stories about his fishing adventures.
He enjoyed anything that involved working with his hands.
He was a craftsman and owner of the best honey-do list.
He enjoyed making his own ammo and was a member of the Whidbey Sportsmen’s Club.
Fred enjoyed all of his 37 years of being an active member of the Elks Lodge in Oak Harbor.
Services for Fred H. Bishop will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 27, at Maple Leaf Cemetery, 1961 NE 16th Ave., Oak Harbor.
A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge #2362, 155 NE Ernst St., Oak Harbor.
In memory of Fred Bishop the family asks that all donations be given to the Elks Lodge #2362 in Oak Harbor.
