Fredrick Eugene Jung: November 26, 1946 – January 19, 2025

“Honorable, Faithful, Loyal…A True Shipmate”

Frederick Eugene Jung, 78 of Oak Harbor, WA passed away at the Life Care Center of Federal Way on January 19th, 2025 after complications from a malignant cancer diagnosis. He was born in Sheboygan, WI in 1946 to Milton Jung and Helen Schmidt (Allinger) Jung. He grew up on the family dairy Farm in Kiel, WI. Fred graduated from Kiel High School in 1964. He attended and graduated from Central College in Pella, IA where he participated in football and track. He enlisted in the Navy and began training to become a pilot in November of 1968. Fred retired after 24 years of service with a rank of Captain in October 1992. In his military career he accumulated 4339.9 flight hours in various aircraft and made 750 carrier landings. During his career deployment and temporary assignments he spent a total of 7.5 years at sea.

Fred married Elaine Klatkiewicz on January 19th, 1974 and began the adventure of raising a family that included time in multiple states across the US and off shore in Japan. He retired from the military and settled Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, WA in 1992. He continued to fly for a local commuter airline until he retired. Following that he did not pass up the opportunity to lean into his farming background by helping drive a combine and grain truck at harvest for 4 Krup Farms in the summer. Fred was an active member of the Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church, enjoyed consulting in the Apple Discussions community and traveling the state of Washington to visit and participate in his children and grandchildren’s activities.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Helen and is survived by a brother Jim Allinger and a sister Kathy (Jung) Janikowski; his wife Elaine; children: Nicole Krupke (Scott) of Edwall, WA; Rebecca Watkins (Nick) of Wenatchee, WA; Dieter Jung (Krissi) of Covington, WA; grandchildren: Ayden and Evan Krupke; Torsten, Willem and Anabelle Watkins; and Ella and Owen Jung.

Fred was at first a child of God and then an ideal American who served and defended the United States of America honorably and proudly. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, as well as brother, uncle and friend to many. He excelled as a grandfather and enjoyed supporting and interacting with each of his seven grandchildren. Fred made an impression at first meeting and had a lifetime of insight and stories to share. He was a person that followed the call to adventure that God has set before us. He was that person you want to model yourself after and a blessing to all. He will be fiercely missed by all those whose lives he touched.

A memorial (Celebration of Life) service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor in Oak Harbor,WA on February 3, 2025 at 11:00 am. At a later date, Frederick will be interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA after a full military honors ceremony.
