Gary T. Pursel, 72, died April 5, 2007 in his home, of a long illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Lushton, Neb. He graduated from Washington State University and the Naval War College. He worked 33 years as an aeronautical engineer for the Navy. He retired to Oak Harbor in 1993.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of 44 years; three sons, Joe of Coupeville, James of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jason of Lake Stevens; and four granddaughters, Jessica and Rachel of Oak Harbor, Shaina and Casey.
He had many interests including carving Northwest Indian art, making bentwood boxes and creating stained glass windows. He loved working in his shop. As a young man he enjoyed working with youth in boys baseball and soccer. A man of unquestionable integrity he will be missed deeply by his family, friends and community.
A service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 at the family home. Burial will be in Malott, Wash. There with be a service beforehand at the Malott Methodist Church.
