George Leo Morse, 86, of Oak Harbor, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 19.
He was born to the late Leo and Grace Morse, Jan. 12, 1927, in Seattle. He served as a Marine in World War II from 1946-1947. George graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1952 with a bachelor’s in psychology.
He married Amoy Charlene Potter in 1948, a marriage lasting 65 years. They moved to Portland, Ore., in 1948, Seattle in 1955, Oak Harbor in 1965, Orlando, Fla., in 1969, Keflavik, Iceland, in 1974, Napa, Calif. in 1976 and back to Oak Harbor in 1980.
George was a NIS Agent from 1955 to 1980.
He then moved back home to his island ranch and served as a captain in the Silver Lake Fire Station. He was always heavily involved with judo.
He was the judo instructor for the NAS Judo Club earning a Rokudan sixth degree black belt in judo. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as committee chairman for the local scouts.
George is survived by his wife, Amoy, and five children: Gaye Fry of North Carolina, Sher Harless of Washington, Suni MacLean of Washington, Jeff Morse of Washington and Brad Morse of Arizona.
He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the George L. Morse Memorial Fund at Washington Federal in Oak Harbor.
This fund will be used to provide college scholarships to aspiring judo students.
A memorial will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Burley Funeral Chapel.
