George Stanley Schuemann, longtime resident of Coupeville, died Jan. 22, 2013, at age 82.

He was born Jan. 2, 1931 in Avoca, Iowa to George and Martha Schuemann, the second of five siblings.

George is survived by his brother Lynn, sister Pauline, his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Miller) Schuemann, of Coupeville, and their five children, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, he devoted his life to his faith, meeting his wife when they were in the full-time ministry service in Omaha, Neb. They later made homes in Iowa and Oregon and retired to Whidbey Island.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Coupeville, 331 E. Morris Road. A reception will be held afterwards at the Au Sable Institute.
