Georgia Eygabroad

Georgia Eygabroad, a young 51, died August 7, 2004, surrounded by her family and friends at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, after a short battle with cancer.

Georgia was born in San Francisco on Nov. 10, 1952, to Leonard and Alberta Likes. She moved with her family to Oak Harbor in 1961 and graduated from Oak Harbor High School with the class of 1971. Starting in 1974, Georgia worked for the Navy Exchange in Oak Harbor until she became ill in 2003. During this time Georgia met Lee Eygabroad, who was stationed at NAS Whidbey while in the Marine Corps. They fell in love and were married Sept. 27, 1984.

One of Georgia’s passions during her life was her love of all animals, and she was a dedicated animal rights advocate. She and her husband Lee own four Morgan horses and have been involved with the Morgan Horse community, also having been members of the Morgan Horses Association.

Georgia also loved children and easily bonded with them through their common love and appreciation of horses. To children at the stables, Georgia was a role model who inspired them to their best. She was an outgoing and friendly person who easily made friends everywhere she went.

Dearest Georgia will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, and will be missed by all who came to know her.

Georgia is survived by her husband of 20 years, Lee; stepson Lee Eygabroad, Jr., of Pennsylvania; stepdaughter, Hope Lopez of Oak Harbor; two grandchildren, Ramon and Jenesa of Oak Harbor; mother, Alberta Likes of Oak Harbor; fraternal twin sister, Eve Likes of Valencia, CA and younger sister, Lynne Diggles of Fort Worth, TX; uncle, Phil Likes of Reno, NV; cousin, Ron Likes of Carson City, NV; cousin, Terri Roderick of St. Louis, MO, along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins throughout Washington state. She was preceded in death by her father Leonard Likes.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Rev. Ronald J. Belisle, officiating.
