Gerald Michael Menard

Gerald Michael Menard, a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, passed away on Oct. 1, 2015. He was born on Aug. 15, 1930, in Holyoke, Mass.

Jerry joined the United States Navy, advanced through the enlisted ranks, achieved officer status and retired, after 30 years, as a lieutenant commander. Jerry married Miriam Kehoe and together they and their six children traveled wherever the military sent them, with Miriam and Jerry finally ending up in Oak Harbor.

Jerry is survived by his wife Miriam and his children, David and Deborah Menard of Mt. Vernon, Stephen Menard of Bellingham, Susie and Jay Timm of Oak Harbor, Mary Ann and Randy Duhrkopf of Montana, Chris and Lizzy Menard of Maryland, and Peter and Lou Ann Menard of Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matt and Aaron Henry, Ben Menard, Jesse, Luke, and Meng Juan Timm, Joshua, Katie, and Megan Duhrkopf, Maggie and Will Menard, and Ryan and Madeline Menard; and great-grandchildren Jack and Cooper Henry.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at St. Augustine Church, with Rev Jerry Kienzle as celebrant. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to Seattle Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., or the Northwest Parkinsons Foundation.
