Gilbert Edwin Oberg died Dec. 23, 2004. Gilbert was born in Omaha, Neb., Jan. 21, 1914. He fell in love with the Northwest after one visit. He moved to Seattle, shortly followed by his beloved Kathryn. They were married in 1938 and raised three children in their home near Greenlake. In 1974, he retired from Seattle City Light and they moved to their dream home on Whidbey Island. They enjoyed many years traveling and spending active winters in Arizona with special friends. In 1998, they moved to Everett to be closer to their children.
Gilbert is survived by children, Karyn DeFant and husband Ray of Olympia, Bud Oberg and wife Peg of Mason Lake, and Wendy Olson of Kirkland. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Jon and wife Susan, Ryan and Michael DeFant, Tammy (Oberg) Lee and husband Tim, Todd Oberg and wife Carly, and Eric Olson. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nathan Lee.
Gil will be remembered for his love of his boats, for fishing, crabbing and time spent just enjoying Puget Sound. He built, remodeled and fixed everything imaginable for family and friends throughout his lifetime.
He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. As we grieve the loss of this great man, we find peace knowing he has been reunited with his loving wife for eternity.
In lieu of a formal memorial service, the family plans a more intimate gathering on his birthday, to honor the life of this man they lovingly call Poppy.
