Glenn Ryn Tocmo Jornales

Specialist Glenn Jornales, U.S. Army, died April 11, 2007, in Manheim, Germany. He was born June 8, 1981, in Olongapo, Philippines to Nilo and Aniceta Jornales. He spent his early childhood years in the Philippines before moving to San Diego, Calif., with his parents and younger sister, Joanne in 1986.

Glenn attended Doris Miller Elementary School in San Diego, completing the second grade. The family then moved back to Cubi Point, Philippines, where Nilo was stationed until the base began to close in April of 1989. The family moved to Subic Bay where they stayed until August 1992 when Subic Bay and Cubi Point were both closed due to the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. Glenn attended elementary school while the family was there. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends in the Philippines.

From the Philippines, Glenn’s family was once again on the move, this time to Atsugi, Japan, where Glenn attended Shirley Lanham Elementary School and was joined by his adopted brother Regi and sister Cynthia Jornales.

In October 1992 the family moved again, this time to NAS Whidbey Island, where they were able to settle in Oak Harbor and all of the children were ultimately able to finish their schooling. Glenn was a 2000 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

After high school, Glenn enrolled in the ITT training program for electronics and after two years earned his associate’s degree in electronics.

Glenn joined the U.S. Army in 2005, going first to Fort Benning, Ga., for basic training and more. He left for his first tour of duty in the Middle East early in 2006 for a one-year tour.

Glenn is survived by his parents, Nilo and Aniceta Jornales of Oak Harbor; sister, Sgt. Joanne Jornales, U.S. Army, presently stationed in Iraq; sister, Cynthia Jornales, MSG U. S. Army (Reserve); and brother, Regie Jornales. He also leaves his grandparents Serafin and Consorcia Jornales, great grandfather Ponciano Tocmo, and grandparents Bienvenido and Erlinda Tocmo of the Philippines, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins both in the United States and the Philippines.

Visitation for Glenn will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 25, 26 and 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. Services and Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, April 28, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m., followed by military honors and a reception. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
