Henry James “Hank” Goodwin, 65, 32-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Whidbey General Hospital on Tuesday, May 7, 2002.
Mr. Goodwin was born in Florence, Colo., on Nov. 9, 1936, to Ruic Hardy Goodwin and Iverna Marie (Kissell) Goodwin. As a young child, he moved with his family to Klickitat, where he attended schools. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Viet Nam Conflict, and retiring in 1975 with the rank of AC-1 (E-6.)
On Sept. 20, 1969, Hank married Genevieve “Genny” Jarvis in Lynnwood. They lived in Mountlake Terrace for one year before moving to Oak Harbor in 1970. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for Gallery Golf Course for a short time before becoming employed at Whidbey Golf and Country Club. He retired there as superintendent in 1997.
In addition to being a member of the Whidbey Golf and Country Club, Hank was also a member of Elks Lodge No. 2362 and VFW Post No. 7392. He loved golfing, fishing and playing cribbage.
Hank is survived by his wife Genny, at home; five children, Lori Fein and husband Trent of Bellingham, Pam Lang of Limerick, Maine, Karen Grunberg and husband Bruce of Arlington, Rick Goodwin and Carla Cannon, both of Seattle; six grandchildren, Shawn Critchlow, Jake Goodwin, Canyen and Daylen Grunberg, Madison and Emma Fein; sister Betty Dinger and husband Don of Klamath Falls, Ore.; also, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruic and Iverna Goodwin, who were killed in an auto accident in 1985.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 12, 2002, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A memorial aervice will be Monday, May 13, 2002, 11:30 a.m., at Oak Harbor Elks Lodge, Mr. Ernie Ghezzi officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 345, Oak Harbor, WA 98277, or to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Avenue N., Seattle, WA 98103.
