We lost our hero, Hugh Randolph (Randy) Leonard Jr., Colonel U.S. Army (retired), on Sept. 6, 2015. He was 68 years old. Randy has gone on to be with those who have gone before.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Boschma; his four children, Elizabeth, Christopher, Kathryn and Pieter; and his sister, Peggy Walker. Randy will be missed greatly by his family; his friends; his church, Bethany Covenant; the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon; and his Boy Scout friends and troop members.

The memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon. A reception will follow, at which his favorite foods will be served. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a date and time to be determined.

His was a life well lived.
