Irvin (“Irv”) passed away from cancer peacefully at his home in Oak Harbor, WA on February 19th, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born December 11, 1933 in Greensburg, Kansas to parents Ida Louisa (Ely) and Irvin Orville Vice. Irv majored in Engineering in college, and then worked several years for The Boeing Company starting in the ‘60’s. At about that time (or earlier) he married his first wife, and they had two sons, Don and Jerry.
In 1969 Irv met Janice (“Jan”) at Boeing and they married in 1970.They resided in Redmond, Washington, along with Janice’s young daughter Connie. Together Irv and Jan had a love of horses, dogs and cats, of which they had many of each over the years. Besides owning several riding horses, they also owned Thoroughbred broodmares and sold the yearlings at the annual Longacre’s Yearling Sales Event. In 1995 Irv and Jan moved to Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. Irv and Jan were married 45 years until Jan’s passing in 2015.
During his long life, Irv wore many hats in his work history, including engineering at Boeing; long-haul trucking with the USPS; managerial work with various companies; horse breeder; horse trainer and farrier at Longacre’s Race Track. In 2016 Irv met Ruth in Oak Harbor and they were partners until his passing.
Irvin is survived by his partner Ruth Davis of Coupeville, WA; his brother, Donald A. Vice of Carl Junction, MO; his eldest son Don (Vice) Blake of San Juan Capistrano, CA; his younger son Jerry (Vice) Blake; and his step-daughter Connie (Frazier, Vice) Ramsey (husband Scott) of Issaquah, WA. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Janice.
Irvin’s ashes were interred, along with Janice’s, at the Fairview Cemetery in Greensburg, Kansas. At Irvin’s request, no funeral service or memorial were held.
