Jack Edwin Hartman lost a short but brave battle to pancreatic cancer and went to heaven on May 8, 2014.
Jack was born on Oct. 29, 1931m to Clifford and Mattie Rose Hartman in Hamilton, Ohio.
As an only child and raised by his grandmother, he went on to become a star football player in high school, joined the Navy and married the love of his life, Barbara Grafton, on Sept. 20, 1952.
Jack retired from the Navy as a chief petty officer dental technician in 1971 after 20 years and made a career change as the assistant manager of the Whidbey Federal Credit Union in Oak Harbor, Wash.
He later moved to Olympia, Wash., where he managed the Social and Health Services Credit Union.
After retiring for good, he and Barbara headed south to Yuma, Ariz., for the past 25 years, but still returned to Whidbey Island for the beautiful summers.
Jack, a 32nd Degree Shriner, was very active in the Oak Harbor Fourth of July parades and various charitable activities. He loved to golf, loved to socialize (especially happy hours), and loved his family and friends more than anything.
He checked off the last item on his bucket list with a fishing trip to the Kenai River in Alaska with his good friends and had one of the best times of his life.
He fought his battle with cancer, often dreaming he was back at that same place.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Hartman; son Matthew Hartman, of Marysville, Wash.; daughter Vickie Catton, of Kapolei, Hawaii; grandchildren Kristofer Catton of Portland, Ore., Tara Johnson of Crownsville, M.D., Elizabeth Klone of Eagle River, Ark.; and great-grandchildren Katherine Johnson, Natalie Johnson and Jackson Edwin Klone.
No services will be held. Jack’s only request is you have a drink for him. Any contributions in his name can be made to the Humane Society of Yuma, Ariz.
Luva, luva, love you!
