James Eugene Kendall

James “Jim” Kendall, 77, of Oak Harbor, passed away at home with his family by his side, on Dec. 11, 2009. He was born on June 6, 1932 in Washington County, Ga., to Theodore and Mattie Lou (Crawford) Kendall.

In 1950, Jim joined the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Korean War and during Vietnam. Jim was a Marine Mustang. He was also a Son of the Confederacy. His family’s military history can be traced all the way back to the Revolutionary War. After retiring from the Marine Corp, Jim sold real estate. On June 10, 1967, Jim married Kathleen “Casey” Collins in Wynnwood, Penn. They moved to Whidbey Island from Camp Pendleton in 1977. They also enjoyed a vacation home in Sandersville, Ga., near Jim’s family.

Jim was very active in the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge. He enjoyed calling Bingo there, as well as at the Oak Harbor Senior Center. Jim had a passion for golf. He was a member of Whidbey Golf and Country Club and could be found on the golf course on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. He had six holes-in-one to his credit.

Jim is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Casey Kendall of Oak Harbor; children, Kellie Cooper and husband Larry and Katie Kendall, all of Port Orchard; grandchildren, Joshua Kendall, Christopher Cooper and Alexander Cooper; sisters, Shirley Lou Pass and husband Dale of Marietta, Ga., and Sylvia Theo Strain and husband Leon of Cumming, Ga.; sister-in-law Nora Leibold and husband Art of Jupiter, Fla.; brother-in-law Jerry Collins and wife Colleen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; childhood friend Dan Henry and wife Maitland of Sandersville, Ga.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
