Jason Meyer: April 4, 1943 – October 10, 2024

Jason Elliott Meyer “Jay” died October 10, 2024 due to heart failure and Alzheimer’s disease. He was born April 4, 1943 to Stanley and Arline Meyer in Bellingham WA, graduating with the Bellingham High School class of 1961. He was a proud Bellingham Herald newspaper delivery kid, worked at Mt. Baker Ski Resort and as an Alaskan fisherman. He attended Western Washington University untilhe married young and had a daughter in 1966.

In the late 1960’s he moved to Coupeville/Whidbey Island. He was a parts manager for several dealerships until he found his calling as the well loved and respected salesman at Oak Harbor Motors, retiring in 2007 with a big party and fancy golf club set as a sendoff.

Jay married his one true love Ellen (Mitchell) Meyer in 1975 and welcomed a son and another daughter. Ellen and Jay found some like-minded friends (co-conspirators). The “N’Westers RV Group” traveled the country, Canada and the world together as recently as 2022. They were able to spend winters at Desert Hot Springs and met friends for a lifetime. Ellen and Jay moved back to the Bellingham area in 2020. His friends continued to support Jay and Ellen even after they could not travel as much.

In late September, Jay went into St. Joseph’s Hospital and then to Whatcom Hospice House where he passed quietly with family on each side of him.

Jay is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ellen Meyer of Bellingham, daughters Jere Jaline of Spokane, Mary Meyer of Sedro Woolley and son Jay Meyer Jr of Durant, OK. His brother Douglas Meyer (Lorraine), Bellingham, nephews Rob (Judy) Meyer, Sumas, Vince Meyer of Bellingham, as well as several cousins and friends spread across the area and the country.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to Dr. Lenlonek and Nurse Alexis at St. Joseph’s Hospital and a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Whatcom Hospice House for the kind and loving care received.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Whatcom Hospice House.
