Jeannette Haakonson, 70, with her husband at her side, went to be with her Lord and Savior Nov. 14, 2011, at Stafford House Care in Bremerton.
She was born July 25, 1941, in Bellingham to John and Anna May Eelkema.
Jeannette attended public schools in Bellingham, graduating from Bellingham High School in 1959. She went on to eventually attain a bachelor’s degree in human resource management. During her career she worked for Harrington, Fick and Chapman Real Estate in Oak Harbor and Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville. She ultimately retired from Upchurch Scientific in Oak Harbor as their human resources manager in 2004.
In 1976 Jeannette married John Haakonson and they moved to Bellingham
When Jeannette retired in 2004 she and John built a home on Treasure Island, near Allyn, Wash., where she spent time volunteering at Faith in Action in Belfair. She was also active in the Oak Harbor First Reformed Church, helping in bazaars from 1992 to 2010 when her health declined to the point she was no longer able.
Jeannette is survived by her husband, John, at the family home; son John; granddaughters Salina and Sky of Las Vegas; brothers, Lee (Mary), Stan (Marilyn), Jim (Ann) and Ken (Diane) Eelkema of Oak Harbor; and numeerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Bartleson.
A memorial service for Jeannette will be held at the Oak Harbor First Reformed Church on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor.
