Joan Carol (Parkhurst) Stolt, 55, died March 3, 2006, at Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, after thirty years with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born July 9, 1950 in Oak Harbor to John and Marie (Davis) Parkhurst. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School with the class of 1968.
Following graduation, Joan moved to Seattle. She was married to Sherwood S. Stolt in Oak Harbor on May 31, 1981. She attended Seattle Pacific University, where she received her bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude, class of 1986.
Joan worked as a computer programmer for the Boeing Company for more than six years, until her health began to fail. She spent much of her free time teaching reading to children. She was also very active with the Kent Senior Activity Center and their book club. She was a very avid reader. During her years in Oak Harbor she attended the San de Fuca Chapel.
Joan is survived by her husband, Sherwood, at the family home in Kent. She is survived by her mother, Marie Ferguson of Silvana, and by seven brothers and sisters and their spouses: Jack and Marian Parkhurst of Port Orchard; James Parkhurst of Silvana; Robert Parkhurst of Seattle; Pamela Parkhurst of Bellevue; Paul and Debra Parkhurst of Monroe; Lori and Bobby Kalac of Tacoma and Rose Ferguson of Seattle. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her father John Parkhurst and two brothers, Gerald and Don Parkhurst.
Funeral services for Joan will be held Saturday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor with Pastor Cliff Horr of the San de Fuca Chapel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
