Joan M. Tate was born on Aug. 23, 1943 in Chicago to Raymond and Virginia (Dalton) Tate, and she entered into the Memory of Jehovah on Oct. 4, 2006 following an extended illness in Mount Vernon.
Joan entered into marriage with John Tate in Chicago on Dec. 23, 1960. They were happily married for almost 28 years before he died on Dec. 15, 1988. She and her husband were the owners of Oak Harbor Taxi Co. for a number of years. Joan was a strong pillar of spirituality in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oak Harbor for many years, and also in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mount Vernon for a number of years. She is remembered by her family as a loving mother, family matriarch, grandmother, friend and spiritual sister.
Joan is survived by her beloved sons John Tate and his wife Stephanie of Mount Vernon, and James Tate and his wife Lynn of Oak Harbor; brothers James Gore, John Tatosian and Charles Tatosian, and sister Toni Hunt, all of Chicago; and grandchildren Neckole Tate of Everett, and Zachariah Tate and Summer Tate of Oak Harbor. Joan’s mother and father and sons Tony Tate and Kenneth Tate predeceased Joan.
A memorial service will be conducted for Joan at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3610 Terra Lane (off Digby Road) Mount Vernon, on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. Elder Doug Woodbury will be presiding. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon.
