John K. Luuv Steusing died July 10, 2002, at Careage. John was born in Poland in 1920.
At the age of 18 he crossed the border into Hungary and into Greece, later to join the Polish Army in France. He fought with them until 1945.
They moved to the United States and became citizens. He worked at N.I.H. and was a research participant in early genetics.
They loved Whidbey Island and retired in Coupeville in 1980. He was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. His wife Eva died Nov. 5, 2001. She had been a volunteer at Whidbey General. At his request, there will be no services.
