John Louis Sanford, 63, died July 3, 2002, in Greenbank. He was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, to Louis and Thelma Sanford. He moved to the Northwest from Worthington, Ohio, 36 years ago. He has been a resident of Whidbey Island for the past six years. John served in the United States Air Force. He was an architect and he was a member of the Useless Bay Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sanford; son, David Sanford and his wife Helena; daughter, Kim Zylstra and her husband Steve; two stepsons, David Rife and his wife Lyn, Brad Rife and his wife Jenny; and nine grandchildren. His parents, Louis and Thelma Sanford, preceded his in death.
